About WildInvest
Our Mission
We work to safeguard endangered species, the habitats that sustain them, and the communities living in balance with the natural world around them.
We seek out local communities and conservationists doing extraordinary work, and champion local practices and solutions for coexistence.
We advance public understanding of natural ecosystems and the communities whose way of life exists in balance with the natural world.
We seed fund local conservation organisations and sustainable communities. We document their practices to carry their stories to a wider audience and inspire others to act.
Our Story
Diana van de Kamp founded WildInvest in 1997. She has always been passionate about saving wildlife and giving back to nature. Her driving conviction is to depart this planet knowing she has done her part to conserve biodiversity and the ecosystems that support all life, great and small. It was this conviction that led her to found WildInvest.
The premise was straightforward: the most important conservation work was being done by remarkable individuals, and almost nobody knew about their work. WildInvest's answer was to seed fund them and tell their stories. The charity built a membership community of donors united by genuine curiosity and care. Each year, conservation leaders working on the ground travelled to London and New York to share their work in person: the Pygmy Hippopotamus of Liberia, the Black-faced Lion Tamarin of Brazil, the Iberian Lynx of Portugal.
Many of the conservationists WildInvest partnered with were early in their careers. Seed funding enabled them to conduct pioneering research and to implement and expand their programmes, and it often opened the door to support from larger organisations. Over fourteen years the charity funded thirteen projects across twelve countries.
In early 2026, Diana relaunched WildInvest with Celeste Allen, a next-generation conservation storyteller who aims to find sustainable communities and bring their practices to an expanded global audience through the power of media documentation. Today WildInvest champions not just species but the communities living alongside them: the land stewards, forest guardians, and farming communities whose practices sustain ecosystems. The belief that founded this charity has never wavered. The stories are just getting a bigger stage.

What We Do
WildInvest operates across three interconnected strands: find, document, and seed fund.
01
The communities WildInvest supports are found, not listed. We travel in country to find communities and conservationists doing extraordinary work that goes unrecognised.
02
We document what we see and share it widely, putting these communities at the centre of the sustainability conversation. At WildInvest, we think that seeing is believing.
03
The community-led organisations we find become the projects we seed fund. We follow the community's lead, supporting rather than directing, because we believe that local knowledge should always guide the work.
How We Work
01
Face-to-face due diligence in the field. No application forms, and low overheads.
We believe it is necessary to meet our future partners in person, and to be in country long enough to identify the organisations doing work on the ground that goes unrecognised and unsupported. Because we find these communities ourselves, through our network and on the ground, we don't need formal application systems. That is one of the ways we keep our overheads low.
02
We fill the early-stage funding gap other donors leave, and reduce the risk for larger funders to follow.
Few donors fund organisations at the early, seed stage, and WildInvest exists to fill that gap. We deliberately back smaller organisations that traditional funders overlook. Small is scalable: by championing local practices, we invest in solutions that work now, because communities are already using tools within their reach. Our seed funding also reduces the risk for larger funders who follow.
03
We trust our partners with the funding and measure impact on their terms.
Trust-based giving extends to how we measure impact and collect reporting from our partners. The people we work with face the day-to-day risks, so we meet them where they are, rather than imposing our ideas of how something should be done or measured.
04
Continuation funding so partners can grow. Success is when a partner no longer needs us.
For smaller organisations to grow, continuation funding is a necessity. Feeding directly into this is our commitment to long-term partnerships with our partners on the ground. We're happy when partners leave us: it means they've outgrown us or become self-sufficient.
05
Local leaders on the ground, and a community of members at home.
Meeting partners in person lets us back the community leaders with the skills to deliver their mission. And because WildInvest engages long term, we need our own community of supporters alongside us. People contribute in different ways, and membership lets you stay involved for the long term.
WildInvest was founded on the belief that local knowledge is the most valuable form of knowledge.
We do not arrive with solutions. We arrive with a genuine desire to listen, understand, document, and support.
WildInvest supports the Sustainable Development Goals.
